We are all ordinary people in an extraordinary way that makes us all exceptional. Every one of us is looking for a change, a step forward towards "that someone" we wish to be one day. This is a story of an ordinary girl becoming extraordinary.
She was too shy, not opened to anything new, scared of change and wasn’t risking something as simple as wearing a color that didn’t match her skin tone. She was engraved in her comfort zone; unable to indulge and communicate with people. She was too self-conscious and sensitive.
One day, she started to suffer from tummy aches that gave her no sleep for days. No test diagnosed her condition. And finally after what seemed like ages she was diagnosed with "Intestinal Veins Thrombosis”. She was directly moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Her family was in complete shock, devastated about what’s happening to their girl.
She found herself in a room full of doctors and nurses. Someone was opening through her neck and putting a central line to fill her body with liters of fluids. Then, she was in complete chaos that left her understanding nothing.
She spent days and even weeks in the ICU. One day conscious and the other she was not. One day she could move and the other she couldn’t. A glimpse of her family praying is all she could see when she opened her eyes. The doctor told her parents: “We have to take her to the operating room to remove the ischemic part of her intestine. Say your goodbyes to your daughter, it’s a fatal surgery.”
After a month of treatment in a 4 walled room that seemed like hell for her and her family, the doctors announced in disbelief the fading of this deadly thrombosis and that there will be no need for surgery.
She started gaining her consciousness and recovering after months of misery. Lots of ideas stuck in her mind during this time. She couldn’t believe that she’s actually alive. Sometimes, she had to pinch herself to make sure of that.
She came out with only one mindset: “I’ve got a new chance to live and no way I’m going to lose it. I’m going to live it all, try everything, go for every adventure, and grasp every opportunity.”
She decided to let go all her fears, to fill herself with all the confidence and to show herself to the world without hiding even a bit. All her flaws and strengths are part of her, it’s what makes her who she really is. She accepted the fact that no one is perfect and that all of us on this road of life are going through ups and downs; and it’s takes strength to lift yourself up after falling.
Her best friend said: "I live away and we see each other annually, and every time I see this girl and compare her to her old self, I get jealous and inspired. She’s a flame of hope and strength.”
Today, she can totally walk with complete confidence knowing that she’s worth living, worth the happiness. She lastly advice: “Cherish every moment no matter how hard it is, it’s for a reason; for a change that will make you shine.
This is a story of me, of you, of every human being who faces challenges, major hardships that gives a wake up call and leads us to the right path.
This is a real story of a person who lives inside us. The details may differ but the morals are the same.
