Ramadan: Beyond the Spiritual

Picture this.

It's over thirty degrees outside and you've been out since early morning. The sun has probably fried your brain and you're soaking in your own sweat. Finally, your day is over and you're home away from everyone. Just you and your fridge full of cold water.

But you don't drink. Maybe you fantasize about it, but you don't drink.

Now picture this.

You really have to do just one task. You want to do it and you know how important it is. Yet, you reply to a text and scroll through TikTok watching endless videos before realizing that it's been hours. You put your phone down and sigh "Ugh, I have no self-control," and start doing your work stressed out of your mind before you run out of time.

Well, you do have self-control. You beat your thirst and hunger every day. You get a million chances everyday to sip cold water or eat hot fresh food but you don't. Because you have self-control.

Fasting is all about self-discipline. You can fast from your needs like food and water. So, you can definitely fast from your distractions.

Ramadan is a holy month for all Muslims. There’s a lot to learn from fasting during it outside the spiritual and religious aspects. Take this Ramadan to practice and strengthen your resolve and self control, just like you handle the thirst like a boss.
