Have you ever been watching a movie and concentrating about the simplest details in it? What are the words being said? How the decor is brilliant? Or how much you loved that actress's Christmas sweater in that particular scene.
Have you ever been with your friends in a summer day picnic and everyone is chatting, laughing like actually enjoying the moment, but your mind is not present?
Have you been holding your phone in each and every outing, not because you don’t like the people or the place, but because your mind is in somewhere else?
Do you remember the day when the weather was beyond amazing and the scenery of the clouds hugging sun at sunset was breathtaking or that spectacular moment which you lost because you were buried down in your thoughts?
This world is moving so fast, so fast that we can’t actually enjoy the unforgettable moments and the simplest gestures. We are caught either in our past or worried about our tomorrow, leaving today slip out of our hand, forgetting the ultimate fact that it’s never coming back.
This is about today, about this hour of the day, this particular moment that belongs only to you.
So how can you actually be present? Accept your current feeling We always think that we should be happy everyday, that as long as there is no reason to be upset we should be laughing and having fun. But surprisingly, this is not true. The opposite of happy is not sad when it comes to real life, there are a bunch of other feelings that you can feel and it is not sadness. So just accept your feeling, don’t hide it or escape from it, just live it. Fully appreciate the moments of today Your life is full of moments that make you who you are, so appreciate each and every moment, for in fact it will have an impact on you. Appreciate the simplest of the simplest. Forgive past hurts The past might carry a lot of painful memories, that we might keep buried inside thinking that's better, but it can actually shape our present and future. As Tony Robbins said: "Every moment you live in the past, is a moment you waste in the present."
Stop worrying Worry is a feeling that can actually paralyze you from taking any step closer to where you want to be. You are worrying about something will never change or happen anyway. So every time this feeling hits you hard just see where will you be when you get this job done.
Think beyond old solutions to problems Our nature is against change, once we notice a change in the way we think, in our actions, even in the circle of people we know, we panic; as if change is not the universe rule already. Growing up is in itself a change in everything, your dreams, your people, your taste, your principles. So try new solutions from your new perspective, it’s still you.
Dream about the future, but work hard today All my life, I haven't been the smart buddy, but the hard working one. I used to blame myself for not being smart enough. But in-fact hard work has always taken me where I want to be. So forget about what will happen later on, use today to take a step closer towards your dreams.
Don’t dwell on past accomplishments What you accomplished yesterday is already accomplished, holding up to it will not make you move a foot towards what you will accomplish today. What’s in the past stays in the past. So stop bragging about your past achievements.
Remove unneeded possessions Minimalism has been a therapy for a lot of people. Try out freeing yourself from possessions you don’t actually need.
Smile Each day is full of endless possibilities! Start it with a smile. Smiling has been proven by almost all religions that it’s a remedy. Prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H) gave it the power of charity. Even if it’s too hard to smile, as they say 'fake it till you make it'. You will be there one day.
Between the future and the past, a moment called present. How do you want to spend it?
